Walking in the Forest

In terms of the forest/trees analogy the exegetical approach is the examination of the individual trees—noting the minutest details; the synthetic approach looks at the forest as a whole; the systematic catalogues the types of trees in the forest into like kinds, subsets, etc. In other words, to gain an excellent understanding of the entire forest, all three approaches are helpful.
